Day Eight: Inching Forward...

Today seemed to be a much slower day for us, even though we did get quite a bit accomplished. Part of it is that we had a shorter day than normal, as we had youth group tonight. We had some visitors today, including Sammie and my mom. Sammie and Abby spent the afternoon playing, whining, barking, and pawing at the door to be let inside. Two big goons, those dogs. Cute goons, though.

Mom and I did a second coat on the walls in the guest and littlest bedrooms, as well as a first coat on the master bedroom walls. I just need to finish out the closet, touch up the ceilings, and paint the trim and the guest bedroom will be ready for curtains and... finished! I am so excited for that to happen. It will likely be just in time, too, as John and Elise need a place to stay Friday and Saturday nights.

While we painted, Chris put in the panel of drywall on the side of the pantry so that we can hopefully finish out that corner soon (texture, primer, paint, reattach ceiling and base moulding pieces) and move the fridge into place! I feel like we keep moving forward inches, and we still have several feet to go. Ah, well. He also re-insulated the downstairs bathroom walls and began installing mold and moisture resistant greenboard.

I realized today that I didn't mention the installation of our garage door opener yesterday, or the surprise of finding a leak in the dishwasher that called for complete demolition, removal of questionable/gross things underneath, and re-enforcement of the subfloor. Apparently, the people who installed the original dishwasher hot-wired the thing and then used spray foam when it began to leak. Awesome. A new dishwasher is in our future.

Also in today's news, Stephen Jones stopped by and took a load to the dump with Christopher (it has been wonderful to have him back in town). They packed in a lot of stuff (mostly bags of removed insulation from the downstairs bathroom), but this is what is still left:

As much as it's an eyesore, I think the neighbors are probably just happy that the house has owners again... who actually care about the house. I think another trip to the dump is in our future, as well.

Tomorrow: More painting. Surprised? Nope, me neither.
