Day Six-Part One: Prep Work in the Kitchen

I began work on the cabinets today by taking them off of the boxes in the kitchen. All of the hardware knobs were taken off so that we make sure to just paint the cabinets, and the doors were stacked in the coat closet off of the living room. This means the kitchen looks like this:

It's going to take a lot of work to get them from the dirty and badly painted cabinets to the cabinets that will suffice until we can afford to ever replace them. They'll get there, though. Little by little. Part of that process is deciding how we want to paint them, dark brown (below) or a lighter brown (yet to be attempted). We tried it out on a door from the cabinet over where the fridge used to be (we're not re-using it) and we intend to try out the other color on the other door from that cabinet. Excellent. The dark brown isn't quite as dark as we thought it would be, so we're leaning toward the lighter brown. We'll let you know when we come to a decision.

We're trying to focus on the kitchen, which means getting drywall up, priming and painting, and re-painting cabinets so that we can put in our new countertops (above, purchased today), sink (also purchased today), and then our new floor! So many things to do... you just don't know where to begin.
