Day Two: Dirty Water/Fallen Stars

My (Kate's) mom came up today to help me do some cleaning on the upper level to prep for painting. We washed walls, steam-cleaned carpets, scrubbed baseboards, and cleaned out windows. So. Very. Gross.

Every once in a while, I would walk away to do something in another room and I would just hear my mom say "Ew" in the next room. So many disgusting corners with cobwebs, dirt, and "organic" splatter (as my mom labeled it) that it's really quite odd to think, "We might actually live in this gross place sometime soon." Weird.

By the end of the day, we had three buckets of wall-washing fluid that looked like this:

Super gross. I am grateful, however, that the three buckets of dirty we took off of the walls, baseboards, and ceilings is no longer on the walls, baseboards, and ceilings. Primer will have to take care of whatever's left, because I'm sure there is at least something left...

But the best part of the day was walking in on my mom, up on a ladder, attempting to pick every last glow-in-the-dark star stickers off of the ceiling in the master bedroom. For about a half an hour, she was on a ladder and I was on a step-stool, removing the odious little things off so that we can paint the ceiling. They cascaded down onto the ground and were kind of pretty sitting there on the carpet, so I took a picture:

I am really tired, sore, and in need of a shower, but am also ready to enjoy my first bit of time with Christopher all day. We're taking a much needed break before trying to get more done tomorrow and looking forward to a productive weekend with some extra help hanging around.
