Day Eighteen: The Beginning of the Finish (Work)

The end of yesterday until today was a very long day. Chris and I went over to the house to try and do some little things (buy new vent covers and registers, put up a curtain rod, put up a few trim pieces, etc.), and then John and Elise joined us and we did... nothing! At the house, that is.

Instead, we went back to our apartment and cleaned it, and then went to dinner. Awesome. I'm incredibly tired in every way possible, but I'm still aware enough to understand what a blessing my little brother and his bride are to us. We enjoy their company and they are willing to help us with the little things - like dishes and vacuuming. Such a tremendous help after the last week and a half following Christopher's surgery.

Regardless, we headed back to the house today to put in some work and Christopher's dad came up for the day again. He finished putting in the floor on the main level and installed the dishwasher!

Chris worked on installing trim when he had the energy; John painted and finished the taping/sanding/compounding on the greenboard in the bathroom before installing/cutting trim pieces, including attempting to reaffix the crown moulding we took down in the kitchen to build the pantry; Elise worked on painting the front sides of the cabinet doors (she'll do the other side tomorrow); and I worked on whatever miscellaneous things I could find (fetching food, doing a second coat and painting trim on the cabinet boxes, patching a few holes in the bathroom drywall, cleaning cabinet knobs, and lending my hands and flashlight skills wherever they were or were not welcome).

We're definitely getting to the point where the major thing left is the upstairs bathroom and the lower level (in general, since it's not necessary for us to be able to move in) and the majority of the work is just made up of the little things - trim, touch-up paint, cleaning (and re-cleaning), attaching things, hanging up curtain rods, etc.

Unfortunately, that will take quite a bit of time, since I'm not very good at the little stuff and it takes a while for Chris to be able to get things done these days. We're certainly progressing, but the little stuff makes it harder to wait... I feel like we should be able to finish this project already!

Randy (Christopher's dad) went home, but John and Elise are still here. We're only going to work at the house for a few hours tomorrow, as we're all tired and need to attend to some other things (work, for instance). But we might get a few things done in those few hours...
