Day Eleven: Saturday + Hard Work = Progress

Today was another one of those long days where we worked and worked and then worked some more because the day never seemed to end... but we got a lot done. Granted, there is still a ton more to do, but we keep going and every day get closer to actually being able to move into this place. The nice thing is that it is starting to feel like someplace we could actually live, which is awesome.

We started out the day at RMBW and then moved on to both Lowe's and Home Depot (because you can never hit just one home improvement store). A few hours went by where we picked out appliances, light switches, picked up additional paint and our upstairs vanity, and some other odds and ends. By the time we got to the house to start working, we were already tired. But we started the day like this:

So there was at least some energy hidden in there. The gang worked for several hours (most of them painting) while I ran errands to get food and a few miscellaneous items, checked in on the puppy, started dinner in the slow cooker, and picked up deli sandwiches for lunch. We had another picnic outside, and it was wonderful.

And then we all went back to work, painting and painting and painting some more. I can't quite remember what I did, as I tried not to use my hand today, but I think I just helped wherever I could. Karin (Christopher's mom) painted the kitchen green and John and Elise painted the living room, simply so that the new floor can go in.

I am no longer "The Thing that Paints a Lot" - that title belongs to my little brother, John, who painted and edged and painted all day long as far as I know. Ceilings and walls and trim - so much painting! But with him, our painting might be soon done, which we are not disappointed about at all...

Elise finished sanding the cabinet doors for the kitchen, and I managed to sand and prime the bottom cabinet boxes (Chris did the uppers earlier today). I'm thinking that the kitchen might soon be done, particularly with the delivery of our new appliances (stove and dishwasher) tomorrow afternoon.

My favorite thing about the day, though, was seeing the first bits of the main level floor go down. I know it was difficult for Chris and his dad to get all of the crazy cuts in trying to lay a floor in the kitchen, but it looks fantastic so far and I'm looking forward to seeing it finished soon. It will be a much-welcomed change from the gross carpet and vinyl that came with the house.

Tomorrow's another day and, while we have some work on our docket, it might be time for yet another day off. We'll see what comes of that...
